There is nothing wrong with pursuing art as a hobby or as an introduction to another career AND it’s okay to make money with your art – you’re not selling out! 

If you make money from your art, jump for joy, because you are one out of thousands who has taken your art seriously.  If you’re not making money – or enough money – with your art I’ll bet it’s not because of a lack of talent or skill, more likely it’s the lack of knowledge, training or confidence in how to connect the dots to bring your art to paying customers and build a following for your art – or, straight-up truth – perhaps, a lack of discipline.  A swift kick might help that.  Read on.

When you look at an artist you admire, that you feel is successful, there is a good chance that the reason they are successful is because they are prolific.  They are consistently producing work and taking action toward their business goal.  The discipline to create consistently is one of the key reasons for success.

Think of your reasons for why an artist you admire is successful.  Why are they successful to you?  Are they in the news?  selling lots of art?  living on a tropical island? How did they get there?  Likely, not sitting on their bum wishing they could survive and prosper as an artist.
