One of those days? Do you have those days sometimes when you have grand plans to complete a pile of projects, write a profound essay or begin a new painting? Or a blog post packed with tips and resources? If you’re like me, then you know this feeling.
When you’re plans are thwarted – detoured by something unexpected or outside forces that seem to be working against you, you can either go with the flow or get stressed and try to make everything stick to your original plan. I don’t recommend that later.
This is exactly what the past few days have been like for me. When I recognize this – that my plans are changing – I pause, take a REALLY deep breath and shift my focus. When I can, I run out and stick my toes in the grass or on the flagstone (I’m usually barefoot anyway!) to get grounded – it helps to kickstart the shift.
Getting in or out of creative flow may take a bit longer or feel different than other types of daily energy, but consider that the creative flow of negotiating a deal, raising a child, making a meal – are all creative, they just look a little different.
So instead of the post I intended, here is a sketch I did recently.
How do you get into your creative flow? What happens when you’re interrupted?
